Event Description

Thanks for supporting local small scale sustainable food initiatives!

PRE-REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY, PLEASE REGISTER EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.

THREE farms by luxury motor coach! oh ya!
...
Boundary Creek Farm (CSA/veggies)
Plum Ridge Farm (fruit/lumber)
Sheeples Fine (from the sheep's back to your back...fleece, yarn...)

On this tour we will be visiting three farms:

Boundary Creek Farm is a small chemical-free farm near Winnipeg Beach. Theresa and Geoff, along with their family and a couple of interns, farm 5 acres of vegetables to supply a Community Shared Agriculture Program. Anyone who has been inspired by the writings of Eliot Coleman should see this farm, as the farmers follow many of Coleman's suggestions.

Plum Ridge Farm is doing what many think is impossible...growing fruit without chemicals or conventional fertilizers. Betty and Bob are well known for their fruit, ideas and wisdom! Come and see their weeders...a flock of geese...in action! You will be inspired as you walk through their peaceful orchards full of every kind of fruit tree you can grow in Manitoba.

Sheeples Fine Fibres has 250 very well loved specialty wool sheep. Kim and Joe offer custom processing of wool, alpaca and other exotic fibres. They can literally take the wool from the sheep's back and put it on yours in the form of a beautiful sweater!

On this farm tour you will have the opportunity to:

* sit back, relax and network with other tour participants as we are driven by motor coach through the Interlake,
* see diversified farm operations that have multiple income streams and marketing strategies,
* network with like-minded people,
* meet different kinds of farmers,
* see examples of how local, sustainable food and other products are grown,
* ask questions of the farmers and other participants,
* spend some time soaking up the small farm atmosphere!

All that for only $40 ($36 for Canadian Organic Growers members)

You will also have the opportunity to purchase products from these farms, so bring your reusable shopping bags. Some products that might be available are:

* fresh vegetables, fleece, fibre, yarns and knitted products.

**BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH, SNACKS, DRINKS** There will be a cooler on the bus to put your food into.
