Watering the Grassroots: building an environmental water movement in Winnipeg

Manitoba Eco-Network is pleased to invite you to a day of capacity building on water issues in Winnipeg, July 7, 2009.
• Are you concerned about water in Manitoba?
• Do you want to get more involved in protecting our water environment?
• Join us for an evening of workshops on building a grassroots movement on water issues in Manitoba.

Our province faces a many environmental threats relating to water — effects of climate change, pollution from industrial agriculture, transnational and inter-provincial watershed management, threatened waterways, and over-consumption. We also possess an energetic and engaged core of individuals concerned about these issues. Up until now however, we have lacked leadership from national environmental organizations. Building our grassroots organizations has never been more important.

The Manitoba Eco-Network Water Caucus hopes to make Winnipeg a centre of environmental activism on water issues. We are bringing together Meera Karunananthan, National Water Campaigner with Council of Canadians, Celeste Côté, National Water Campaigner with the Sierra Club of Canada, with selected community participants for an afternoon and evening of discussion around priorities, strategies and goals for water activism. We hope you will join as a leader in protecting Manitoba waters.

Food will be provided. Limited reimbursement for childcare costs may be available upon request.
