The Manitoba Environmental Youth Network

This discussion is for the purposes of coordinating Manitoban efforts regarding CYCC's Power Shift 2009. I find it nice to have all the communication in one place, accessible by everyone. So let's start planning!

Here's a description from the CYCC website (ourclimate.ca):

"The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition (CYCC) is in the early stages of organizing an event called Power Shift Canada. We need YOU!

The plan:

October 21-23, 2009, we will bring together over one thousand young people from across Canada for two days of awesome workshops and strategy sessions that will build to a MAJOR lobby day on Parliament Hill on the third day. We will deliver our message of change to our elected officials and push the federal government to take bold steps in tackling climate change.

Youth of all backgrounds will come together to create a fresh, positive, and inspiring vision of the future, one focused on our potential to overcome the challenges of the 21st century, build a clean energy economy, create green jobs, increase global equity, and revitalize our economy. Now is the time for action. Now is the time for boldness."

It's probably best if I focus my own efforts on the U of M, but aside from booking class presentations in August, everything else pretty much has to wait until school starts, when everyone returns. So, while I am less busy in August, I would like to get a head start on recruiting and fundraising.

I was thinking I could go down the list of MEN member organizations and do some recruiting, possibly doing presentations for interested groups, but at the very least sending them an email.

If anyone is familiar with particular groups that are members of MEN, feel free to take those on yourself, just let me know on this forum so I don't also contact that place. Does anyone know if there are there any member organizations known to donate to causes such as ours?
Another thought. For those who plan to do presentations on Power Shift for recruiting, would anyone like to stay after the next Power Shift meeting (early Aug) to practice their presentation? I hope to throw together something rough in the next few days.
